2 IMPORTANT QUESTIONS /”NEVER THE BRIDE”
HERES THE BIG QUESTIONS BEFORE THE BLOG -
1= WHAT MAKES YOU BUY A CD INSTEAD OF DOWNLOAD? WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU DOWNLOADED ? WHTA WAS THE LAST CD YOU BOUGHT? WHY?
2
WHAT SHOPS DO YOU SHOP AT AND WHAT BRANDS DO YOU LIKE OR WISH YOU COULD AFFORD TO LIKE? ANY YOU HATE?
Can we dispose of the awful word “blog” and return to :”post”
it just sounds so much more polite- new keyboard- if i focus real hard i bet i wont make more than 250 spelling errors.
so big resolution- spend money ONLY on work relateed things no makeup jewelry clothing.
NO LUXURY GOODS! thats my vow – music and creativity and back into the busines sof music and NEVER THE BRIDE only. NO MORE OBSCURE SKINCARE!
( oh hey that infomercial for Dermacia? that stuff rocks! im obsessed! its really good!)
Alot of people have been asking ma about me and Clare La Fayes design brand “Never The Bride” Esp since the Harpers piece came out ESPECIALLY
people who rep people in Japan- imtrying so hard to decide bnetween the companies
some carry one or more of my favourite designers and friends- its a very compex decision- But our look book is amazing – they came out beautuful so far these dresses
we need to start diffusing, its a great innovative thing – but far too expesnive abn dtime consuming to do full time maybe always do a few a year…
to us ethese really rare and precious one of a kind victorian to teens to 20s beading fabrics but now we need to
get to the next level , i just am so confused about Japan, we have an entir eLine DESIGNED AND ready to make but we have to get my pattern Cutter and the best fabrics-= this is not a quick buck to me its art its been with me my whole
life cutting and drawing clothes always dresses l.ingeries shoes and bags
Clare went to Otis, i noticed her way back when seraching the net for deconstructed cool clothes as part of a company in Portland Ore called “Hovercraft” i brought her down to make clothes for an upcoming tour that was never to be, but she came back , iwas in a store newly opened- for about one shining moment this store had the coolest stock in LA ( LA is for all the costumes- remember my first film i worked on was “Mommy Dearest” and Oh. My the stories i could tell, but i did learn who the best patter n makers were who made the handmade lace still, who beaded those crazy 80s Bob Mackie gowns by hand- i knew allthe stock at Paramount until they sold tot he two rental houses Palace where i worked bruefly and WEstern, all the lame and the lace made of solid gold i learned alot about long long fittings juyst to get a dart in the right pl;ace from my mentor Bernadene- she didnt know a thing about FASHION in the sense of what peopel were wearing this season , and i hope to see her soon actually , she certainly still doesnt
but if i drew it , it got made, its how Rick Owens made his first sweater I was gonna do a sci fi film on a dare from Paul Thomas Anderson and one of the prersidents of New Line , Mike, it was to be set on mars and be about grisly Ghosts who ate people,
the stunts were great fun i found a sequence in Leathal Weapon 1 thats like a dance i still want to do it someday if i ever do an action movie- but it was alla bout this dammed sweater= its so hard to get stuff thats any good here inb la we have ONE fabric store and hate to say it but it truly sucks, Rick Owens took off because he was monochromatic , obsessed with felt, wool and ribbing and chiffon, he remains after Marc Jacobs welle evenly i suppose my favourite designer- Rick and me and Bern decided that this character was the great great grandaughtrer of Snake Pl;iskin Kurt Russells character in was it Escape From New York or something? and it was 180 years from the current day and she was stuck on mars in her army un iform and it was allfucked up, i trie dthat sweater on every three days. Rick put a stitch here and one there , the man is a true artist, but hed have to drive all the way out to Torrance to the only knitwear factory in the area for one dammed sweater- finally itdawned on me- thatthis environment this script was really really not for me-= dontwantot get too into it Ice Cube could afford tod o this sci fi film, i was doing it to be ironic with my hip groovy friends and one doesnt doa film to be ir.. man i was such a jerky kid back then – its a real movie with real money and time and althoiugh iwas supprresing alot of hysteria at the way the monsters looked etc- something happened and i hurt my foot very badly – i tbhink i kickboxed a tree too hard- and iwas outta there- meanwhile Rick was stuck with this silvery sweater from 180 years in the future- he made a load of them and put them in his collection – now whenever isee Rick doing textiles – hes moved along way since he and his partner lived in an office off Hollywood blvd all Gehry like but spookier exposed plumbing on purpose the wallas covered in black felt- his exquisite work room – where it was all the Rick usual colous taupe. Oyster, black and lots of leather glove leather different types pf grained leather- even though hes a big fancy desogner in Paris and Italy now i stillthink of him somewhere on thebanks of the Sienne scrubbing his silk cotton cashmere mystery blend down with a rock….his fabrics are still so outragously wonderful hes the minimal sid eof me)
anyway this girl has rtecieved a settlement in a lawsuit and shed opened an amazing boutique- it had all new , all amazing ideas designers and the first thing i bought was a Clare La Faye skirt , made from 40s girdle peach fabric( i collect it tons of it ironically i just saw a oh 1941 ish strapless bra at Coco La Mer in London for about 400 bucks – grab that stuff! its stillcheap and noone knows how c ool it can be remade!
the skirt was oddly familair ( Clare had come to my house when itw as stilldecorated by Dr Phil and i had also gone nuts and painted everything Hydrangea so imagine if you willa kitchen with massive carrots, turnips, potatoes on trhe wallpaper and matching drapes-= the plan was to turn this BH house aroubnd i was heavily into Sue Et Mar ( still am) get Prelle fabrics from Lyon and customise a wrought iron stairc ase and ewonderful chandliers- etc= unfotunately it was right when i started cdiscoveringtahthere was something horribly HORRIBLY wrong with the financial situation in our lives, i lived about 2 blocks from the BHPD, they were of no help whatsover, i dontthnk they like freaks living on that side of Sunset,
anyway this was a while later= not out of the woods yet later but getting there later-
and the skirt had an amazing placket and corset and was up to the top rib and had a crepey chiffon hanging over it with a big pink bow and Clares endearing touch of no money and no owrkers and handsewing wich i have urged her/us to keep , i think it looksw cooler than exoesnive slip ruffles, cheapassed Pennys slips,. the ruffles , 80s at best but probably new- she has this on all her ruffled garments these polyester “Barbie Lingerie” ruching= i pruchasded thatr skirt anbd became a fan – although very very different from Rick ( she has her own website for her line www.ClareLaFaye.com ive not been so i dont know how well the dresses show)
i do think she is the best designer to come out of LA since Rick Owens who was the best designer to come out of LA ever- there was a boutiuque back in the 60s/70s called Hollys Harp and i sued to collect stuff- its was like LAs version of Topanga Hippie Biba-So for years ive been collecting Vintage and Victorian and Edwardian and teens and 20s and 30s dresses and shreds of dresses and just textiles and notions and we started collabartaing on these dresses- on design elements- that lon g nutty blog the other night where if you got that far i got to the part about using Lapis Lazuli , Rubies, Jasper,Onyx ,Rutilated Crystal pieces, i do believ these crystsaLS EMIT A CERTAIN type of energy and bring forces into your life-
i just do-= nothing is inert- and i hand out alot of the time at a plac eon la called crystalarium looking for rare crytsals that work on differntthinsg like Obsidian absirbs negative energy- i have felt it, so to get a good connectiuon fo rthe rarest of stones and use them in the beading or just a s a signature, freshwater pearls and moonstone hanging down…
for as much as im 100% Buddhist both Clare and myself were raised in Eugene and could read your Zodiac chart before “Goodnight , Moon” those hippies did alot of stupid shit, and Eugene was acultural crazy mix of first poor then rich hippies and alot of trailer homes= – i no longer use astrology at all= as a Buddhist o finally read a book wich really helped me figure out the tenents of Nichiren Buddhism, and we do not believ in ghosts, souls or astrology, this isnt a religious seminar so illtellyou some other blog=hate that wiord can we return to the word “post” p[lease>? thanks. some other POST.
inany case – i saw more and more of herdresses and just started getting them then we became chums and i started giving and acquring her very expensive(studying alot of designers- very obscure ones and Yohji too and really keeping up on our WWD and having zero interest in producing a plastic bag with an acronym on it and god bless those girls theyve always been so great to me but Pam and Gillain are making sick sick money from Juicy now, butr if im gonna make clothes they are going to be special and crazy beautiful. art was what i saw at the couture and if it cant bethat beautiful and my hearts not in it i wouldnt have anythingto do with it! for now its a passiobn thingthats been going in abvout a year slowly nbo prssur emakingthes epieces then one wa sin Grazia, and i wore one to a party, they are exquisxite and the res a heavy Westwood infliuence rught now- lotsa whalebone and corsets and squishy boobies-= and draoped ruching- but were going into some more sophistiocated places/
Initially all these pieces are one offs- there will be no gifting= its so hard to get perfect shirring and Victorian Whites and then Clare makes a studded punk belt= i havent been wearing them – even though theyre very “me” im looking for a different vibe for
what i wear onstage ……..a,thoough Pato and Bethia gravited strsaightto the N ever the Bride stuff – they never quite wore them .. and weve had to make things much smaller- and Clares interest in sleeves has grown and i think i finally found my muse t.. the designer who does draping folding modern beuatifully ( OTHER THAN MARC AND A NEW JAPANESE DESOGNER FOUND THIS SEASON_
im also totally wierdly obsessed with the last Valentino collection by Valentino= there are so many classic peices in it and too much fur but my stylist is going ot Milan to see what he can nab again its not just fabrics LA is terrible for bit were a n outpost for “this season ” whatever the hell that means- (IM QUITE upset=- Mr Lagerfeld was kind enough to give me this straw boater in raffia, the exact hat Mlle wore and i sufferede it ebibng called a farm hat and it being laughed at by bloggy bloid voids- i was told people were saying u was wearing a “ridiuclous” hat abnd a “farmers” hat umm it was a couture Chanel hat? and theres a few that were made. but he did produce them
to replace it would be just deadly id rathe rput my money into our business I HAVEVOWED IN FACT!@..
i have clothes, ALin any case Clare is going to the midwest to a textile show and were going to make about 100 pieces max of these- tehres only 4 stores in the world that sell in this price range in coktail length, and so all night ive been working on songs and then sketching and then writing lyrics and then reading and etc,
its been a very long day, inany case- we are finding out aboutthese japanese terxtil emills that have the best new fabrics and the best textiles, and we need to put together a business plan and etc for starting to get out of the 4 stores by mnaking opatterns wich are original with fabrics that can be replicated – and im looking for my older Hollywood crew people from my malibu teens- they also were at the house for the Hydrangea phase- im SOOOOO happy i didnt go on that tour or wearthose crazy costumes- i think i designed them on mars, i was really really into Manga then and Pirncess ai and sendingAI Kawazawa my designs and Lolita Goth wich ublesw syou getthe exact right pieces looks so ridiuclous on a geijein,
but there are some pieces of Gothic Lolita stuff that could be cool, and the cellist Yuiko wears it and i know thats what i wanted but i wouldve hired her anyway becasue of her impeccable cfredentials and the fact that she played in a quartet that did Slayer and Pantera covers.
Also i LOVE Hysteric Glamour out of Tokyo and im finally getting some this week! They tried to have a PR firm here but 2 stores knew who they were and carried about 1 piece apiece- Nobuki is the owner designers name and he is such a genius yes its tsghirst and jeans and astriturf and ashtrays- and roadie satin jackets- but its pretty amazing and his sweaters are to die for=
Butthe best jeans EVER are the Kinky jeans by Hysteric- there is no better jean- not an old 501 not a new Tsubi or sass and bide- these jeans are percfect in eevry way i
in any case we do know where were goign to sell in a casual sort of way in London Paris and LA and NY its Japan that im having thgehardest time with[= four companies have called about liscensing NEVER THE BRIDE and prodcuing the line in JaPAn and i cannot make up my mind wich company to go with!
so many liscening companies- its so easy to get lost were really interested in eventually addinga lot of amazing lingerie so everyone can own a 300 dollar bra for 65 bucks, i am an avid vintage and just gorgous lingerie collector= i have shoes that match corsets, so learning about how to navigatethe Japanese fashion world is
alot of work= and i only have a bit of time for this presently.
Honestly this one song it seems like it may actaullty bethe last a clump of four arrived-
it needs about 1000 words and they all have to be good,
its a sorta jack white homage- bluesy thru a fernder twin on an old strat no pedals all midrange-=
